Estimate Your Travel Insurance Premium
📐 How We Calculate This
Our insurance estimates use actuarial models based on publicly available rate filings, NAIC data, and national averages from the Insurance Information Institute. Factors include age, location, coverage level, claims history, and asset value.
Premiums vary significantly by state and insurer. This calculator provides a baseline estimate — we recommend comparing quotes from at least 3 licensed carriers for accurate pricing.

What does travel insurance cover?
Comprehensive travel insurance typically covers: trip cancellation/interruption (reimbursement for non-refundable costs), emergency medical expenses abroad, medical evacuation, baggage loss or delay, trip delay expenses, and 24/7 emergency assistance. Some plans also cover rental car damage, adventure sports, and identity theft.
When should I buy travel insurance?
Buy within 14 days of your initial trip deposit to qualify for pre-existing condition waivers, waiver of time-sensitive benefits, and the best coverage options. You can buy up to the day before departure, but you'll miss some benefits. The earlier you buy, the longer your cancellation coverage is in effect.
Is travel insurance worth it?
For expensive international trips, absolutely. A medical emergency abroad can cost $50,000-$500,000+, and US health insurance often doesn't cover overseas care. For a $5,000 trip, insurance costs $250-$450 — a small price for peace of mind. It's especially valuable for non-refundable bookings, trips to remote destinations, and travelers over 65.
What is Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR)?
CFAR is a premium upgrade that lets you cancel your trip for ANY reason (not just covered reasons like illness or weather). It typically reimburses 75% of your non-refundable trip costs. CFAR costs 40-60% more than standard coverage and must usually be purchased within 14-21 days of your initial deposit. It's the most flexible cancellation coverage available.
Does my credit card provide travel insurance?
Many premium credit cards offer some travel protection — typically trip delay, lost baggage, and rental car coverage. However, credit card coverage is usually limited: no medical coverage, no trip cancellation, and lower benefit limits. It's a nice supplement but NOT a replacement for comprehensive travel insurance, especially for international trips.
